RECAP: Martin captures Class 1A state long jump title

Jerrick Martin added his name to the Glasgow list of athletes to win a state title.

In his first season of track and field, Martin captured the Class 1A boys’ long jump title with a leap of 22-feet, 9.5 inches. He beat second-place Cameron Morris of Fulton City by nearly two feet. Nearly two weeks ago he won the Class 1A, Region 2 long jump by two feet.

The girls’ 4×100 relay team narrowly missed adding another Glasgow state title. Danica Stephens, Aniston Young, Taylor Wilson and Cynthia Austin combined to finish in 51.31, which was just over a second behind event winner Lexington Christian.

Austin also finished sixth in the girls’ triple jump, while A’Zariah Miller placed 11 in the event.

Martin joined Keyshawn Austin, Kellon Stone, and Jaylen Bradley to finish fourth in the boys’ 4×200 relay. Beechwood won in 43.18, which Glasgow finished in 44.02.

Stephens joined Caralee Gentry, Olivia Wood and Kyleigh Elmore to finish ninth in the girls’ 4×400 relay.

Wilson finished ninth in the 100 dash and 14th in the 200 dash. Wood placed 11 in the girls’ long jump.

Elmore, Brinleigh Mackie, Callaway Mackie, and Anne Rhoades Pike combined to finish 15 in the girls’ 4×800 relay, while Stephens, Young, Austin and Wilson combined to finish 15 in the girls’ 4×200 relay.

The Glasgow boys finished 15 in the 4×200 relay. The team featured Keyshawn Austin, Bradley, Cayden Ward and Taj Young.

Jayden Estes and Breylin Saltsman finished 19 and 20, respectively, in the boys’ 300 hurdles, and Stephens finished 24 in the girls’ 400 meter dash.

Reid Harper picked up three gold medals in mixed unified events. He and Stone teamed to win the mixed long jump unified with a distance of 25-feet, 4-inches. Harper and Ryder Heller teamed to win the 2×200 mixed relay unified, and the mixed 2×50 relay unified. In the latter event, they broke the Class 1A record for the event with a time of 13.32 seconds.

Lady Scotties tied for 16 as a team with 11 points. Lexington Christian girls won title with 117 points. The Scotties tied 18 with 15 points. Louisville Collegiate won boys’ team title with 53 points.
