In the wake of tragedy, the Glasgow and Barren County community has rallied to support the Honeycutt family.
On May 19, Kentucky State Police responded to Bluff Springs Road after receiving a call from the Barren County Sheriff’s Office that a vehicle had veered off the road to the right resulting in the death of 2-year-old Charlie Honeycutt. His mother, Brandi Honeycutt, and four-year-old Elowyn Honeycutt were taken to T.J. Community Hospital, according to state police public information officer Katan Parker.
Caleb Wallace organized a fundraiser online with the goal of helping the Honeycutt family.
“The community is holding onto them right now, here on the edges of agony,” Josh Honeycutt wrote on the donation page. “As Ben and Brandi feel far away on an island, with your help the community is encircling that island, stacking shoulder-to-shoulder, lovingly fortifying these beaches and these waves of grief. While we can’t know the full breadth of pain Ben and Brandi bear right now, we feel the waves of this inexplicable loss, and we are present with them in mourning. For now, we can help with a gesture, a hug, a moment of silence, or just a prayer from afar. But we trust you could also be a stalwart of support.”
The fundraiser had a goal of $25,000, but in “less than 5 hours” the online fundraiser had surpassed its goal and is currently above $40,000 with over 360 donors.
“The way the community has rallied behind Ben and Brandi in such a short time period is nothing short of remarkable,” the updated fundraiser page states. “While we reached our ‘goal’ tonight in just 5 hours, we can continue to show our support by sharing beyond today. Every cent that goes to the family is going to make such an impact on their ability to focus on what matters most…beginning to heal.”
The fundraiser can be found here.
