RECAP: Scotties’ season ends in extra innings

Glasgow built an early lead, but could not hang on in the first round of the 15th District Baseball Tournament.

The Scotties led 4-0 through two innings, and 4-2 through four. Warren East rallied to tie the game, 4-4, after six innings. The Raiders won 5-4 on a walk-off in the bottom of the eighth inning.

In the first inning, Josiah Driver led off with a single. He moved to second when Hudson Gumm was hit by a pitch. Driver moved to third when Steven Garrett reached base on an error. That also loaded the bases.

Peyton Lemily drove in Driver with a single. Carter Hodges drove in Gumm with a ground out to third to give Glasgow a 2-0 lead.

The Scotties added two runs in the second inning. Garett Shields led off with a single, followed by a bunt single from Landon Martin.

During Houston Haynes’ at-bat, Shields and Martin executed a double steal. Haynes drove in a Shields with a ground out.

Gumm followed with a double that drove in Martin.

The Raiders clawed back a run in the bottom of the third, then scored another in the bottom of the fourth.

Both runs scored in the bottom of the sixth that tied the game 4-4 came with two outs.

After the first two batters reached base on a walk and a single, the next two flew out. Out one was caught by catcher Camden Nolley, and the second was caught by pitcher Steven Garrett. The Raiders then loaded the bases with a single.

An error on a ball put into play allowed both runs to score.

Carter Hodges started on the mound for Glasgow. He allowed three hits and struck out two. Garrett replaced him, allowed five hits and truck out one.

Martin led the Scotties at the plate with three hits, while Driver, Gumm and Lemily each also had a hit.

Glasgow ended its season with a 8-21 record.
