The Housing Authority of Glasgow accepted a capital fund grant and authorized a three percent pay increase during the May 21 board of directors meeting at the W.D. Alexander Operations Center on Bunche Avenue.
After welcoming the newly appointed commissioner, Lisa Elmore, who was appointed by the city council on April 28, the commissioners turned their attention to Executive Operations Officer Sheri Lee as she announced the $1.28 million capital fund grant the Glasgow housing authority received from U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Lee said this amount, which is for fiscal year 2025 that ends Sept. 30, is more than the authority received last year, which was approximately $1.1 million.
“We were notified a couple of weeks ago that the Housing Authority of Glasgow will receive $1.28 million in capital funds for 2025 and that is an increase over what we received last year,” Lee said.
Lee said she did not expect to see such an increase in the next fiscal year with everything happening in Washington D.C. which might reduce housing authority’s rental assistance by as much as 40 percent.
At the next monthly meeting — June 18 — Lee said she will have a more specific breakdown of how the authority plans to use this money which can only be use for certain improvements.
“We do a 5 year plan on capital improvements for [our] properties and we come up with a list of things in the next 5 years that we would like to spend the money on,” Lee said.
The board of directors also approved a three percent pay increase for the authority’s 22 full-time employees.
