The solar farm ordinance has passed the Barren County Fiscal Court.

On May 20, the seven Barren County magistrates, and judge-executive Jamie Bewley Byrd, gathered in the fiscal court chambers to conduct a second reading of county ordinance 695, which outlines additional requirements imposed on future solar developments within Barren County — outlining certain things like a 1,000-foot setback requirement and a decommissioning plan.

At the April 29 fiscal court meeting, the magistrates passed the first reading of the ordinance by a 4 to 3 vote. During the meeting Magistrate Tim Coomer proposed an amendment that would alter the 1,000-foot setback if the nonparticipating landowner agreed. Four county magistrates supported adding the amendment and three voiced their opposition. Magistrates Jeff Botts, Derek Pedigo and Tim Durham voted no.

The solar ordinance amendment is available here.

Most magistrates spoke before the second reading vote with Botts saying he believed 1,000 feet was too far and would have liked to have seen it shortened. In the end, the ordinance passed with Durham, Coomer, Marty Kinslow, Brad Groce and Botts voting in favor.

The ordinance pertains to future solar farms and would not affect the Wood Duck Solar Project.
