Barren County has been placed in a flood watch by the National Weather Service in Louisville.

The flood watch remains in effect until 3 a.m. on May 17.

“Rounds of showers and thunderstorms containing torrential rainfall will impact the region through tonight,” the Service stated in the weather statement. “Some locations may receive multiple rounds of heavy rainfall leading to high water and flash flooding. Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.”

Until 11 a.m. this morning, May 16, Barren County is also under a severe thunderstorm watch.

A watch is less severe than a warning. A watch means “the risk of a hazardous weather or hydrologic event has increased significantly, but its occurrence, location or timing is still uncertain [and] is intended to provide enough lead time so those who need to set their plans in motion can do so.
