Barren County’s unemployment rate remains steady.

The Kentucky Center for Statistics reported that the county’s unemployment rate for March 2025 is 6.2 percent which is the same percentage that was reported in February 2025. As previously reported, that is two-tenths of a percentage point lower than it was in January 2025 and four-tenths higher than the 5.8 percent that was reported for March 2024.

The preliminary numbers also show 18,458 people in the current labor force, which is actually 23 people more than the 18,435 reported in February 2025. There were also 1,136 people listed as unemployed, a decrease of 13 people.

For comparison, the Barren River area and the statewide unemployment percentage is 5.5 percent while the national unemployment percentage is 4.2 percent.

Kentucky’s county unemployment rates and employment levels are not seasonally adjusted because of small sample sizes.

“Employment statistics undergo sharp fluctuations due to seasonal events such as weather changes, harvests, holidays, and school openings and closings,” the release states. “Seasonal adjustments eliminate these influences and make it easier to observe statistical trends.”
