It took a bit, but the Barren County Trojans’ bats caught fire against Monroe County in a 17-5 home win.
The Falcons flew to a 4-0 lead through the top of the second inning, but Barren took control from there.
The Trojans posted five runs in the bottom of the second, seven in the bottom of the third and five more in the bottom of the fourth. Monroe added a run in the top of the fourth, but the game ended on the 10-run mercy rule after the top of the fifth.
JP Hyde posted three hits and drove in seven runs at the plate. Gavin Coffey and Price Thompson each posted two hits, while Sutton Hyde, Axel Dysholm, Skylar Potter and Jordan Harris each added a hit.
Potter and Coffey each hit home runs in the game.
Matthew Estes, Colten Wilson, and Joey Meyers combined on the mound to give up eight hits and strike out six.
