Carissa Uptegraff of Glasgow has been sentenced to 3 years probation for “theft of medical products.”
Uptegraff was federally indicted in the Western District of Kentucky on June 1, 2024 one two counts of stealing oxycodone and hydrocodone at two different pharmacies, “which had a value of $5,000.” On Nov. 21, 2024, her attorney, Aaron Dyke, entered a guilty plea for her on both counts.
The plea states the maximum sentences for Uptegraff’s crime was 25 years of imprisonment, $500,000 fine and 3 years of supervised release and goes on to say the Joseph Ansari of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Kentucky recommended a sentence of 3 years probation and $6,427.46 in restitution. There is no minimum sentencing term, the sentencing memorandum states.
Her 3-year probation primarily stems from “the fact [Uptegraff] was addicted to opioids and has no criminal history…thus probation will promote respect and provide just punishment,” the sentencing memorandum states.
In addition to the restitution, which was to be paid in monthly installments of at least $100, the judgement filing states she “must participate in a substance abuse treatment” and “submit to testing.”
