Barren County residents will have two opportunities in the near future to handle their driver’s license needs without traveling to one of the regional offices.
Barren County Circuit Court Clerk Julie Jolly said the first of the two popup opportunity is scheduled for April 23 at the Lera B. Mitchell Clubhouse and the other will be on May 7 in the grand jury room on the third floor of the Barren County Courthouse. Both popups will take place from 9:30 a.m. until 3 p.m.
At these popup events, a person can renew their driver’s license, update their information, renew a CDL or apply for a REAL ID, which will be needed by May 7 to fly U.S. commercial flights or visit federal facilities. A new change for many people is the vision screening requirement that went into effect Jan. 1. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet states vision screenings will be performed at no cost if completed at a regional office at the time of renewal.
Scheduling for the April 23 popup will open on April 9 and the May 7 event scheduling will be available beginning on April 23. The Cabinet states “appointments are offered on a first-come, first-served basis and must be made online.” When opened, an appointment can be made here.
There are permanent regional offices in Bowling Green and Columbia.
