Teresa Bewley has built a statewide recognized cheer program at Barren County High School during her 44 years as coach.
For her work in the arena of competitive cheer and more, Bewley was awarded the Brigid DeVries Outstanding Leadership Award during the KHSAA Girls’ State Basketball Tournament on Wednesday night.
Bewley has led Barren County cheer to the UCA National Championship in 2024 in Orlando, Florida, and a Kentucky high school state title in 2016. The program has also won four NCA National titles, a Contest of Champions National title, an AmeriCheer National Championship and a WCA National Championship.
The DeVries award is named for the Kentucky High School Athletic Association’s first female commissioner. It is given to someone who has excelled in their field, and made a lasting impact on their community and Kentucky high school sports.
