Gas prices in Barren Count are among the lowest in the commonwealth, and well-below the national average.
According to American Automobile Association, otherwise referred to as AAA, the average national gas price, as of March 4, is $3.01 with Kentucky’s average coming in roughly 30 cents lower at $2.70.
In the county breakdown, Barren County is grouped with others like nearby Monroe, Metcalfe and Green counties in the lowest retail designation, according to AAA’s data. Barren County has an average gas price of $2.61 as of March 4.
Most of the highest gas prices are in the western part of the commonwealth, having higher prices than Jefferson and Fayette counties.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration states the main components affecting gas prices are the cost of crude oil, which makes up roughly 53 percent of the retail price, refining costs, distribution costs and taxes.
The national electric-vehicle charging average is $0.34 per kilowatt hour, according to AAA, with Kentucky being higher than the average at roughly $0.42 per kilowatt hour.
