Work on the incoming Starbucks is underway in Barren River Plaza in front of Ruler Foods.
Plaza co-owner Larry Glass said the contractors are Graves and Graves in Lexington.
He said the weather delays and redesigns to the 2,450 square-foot building have pushed back the opening to sometime in September. Glass said one external redesign the corporation has made to the building is changing the drive-thru from two lanes to a single one due, in part, to an “…. altercation in one Seattle stores where someone got seriously hurt over who was next in line.”
“There have been some redesigns on the building that has pushed back the opening date,” Glass said. “Starbucks controls [the opening], I don’t control that.”
Joint City-County Planning Director Kevin Myatt said the location is potentially poised for a faster-than-typical construction time as most, if not all, of the grade work has already been done.
