Both teachers and students are welcome to apply for a non-voting position on the 2025-26 Kentucky Board of Education.

The board’s responsibilities include developing and adopting the regulations that govern Kentucky’s 171 public school districts and the actions of the Kentucky Department of Education. It has 15 members — 11 of which are governor appointees — and four “representing the state at large”

The president of the Council on Postsecondary Education, the secretary of the Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet, a high school student and an active elementary or secondary school teacher all serve as non-voting members.

The estimated time required for the teacher and student members will be at least two successive school days every other month to attend the regular meetings, and applications must be submitted online by March 11 at 5 p.m.

Each member would serve a one-year term, from July 1 to June 30 next year.

Additional information for teachers is available here. For students the information can be found here.
