Dedontae Morrison has not undergone a mental evaluation yet, according to Commonwealth’s Attorney John Gardner.

Morrison was arrested by Barren County sheriff deputies on Mar. 28 after he allegedly stabbed 55-year-old Robert Fields in a residence on Lee Fendell Road. The following April he was indicted by a grand jury on murder and tampering with evidence charges.

His attorney, Lauren Hunter, requested a mental evaluation in May 2024, citing “concerns about competency based on some conversations” and Morrison was sent to the Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center, a “licensed psychiatric hospital” in Lagrange, Kentucky, that is the only place in state that can perform such evaluations.

Gardner and Hunter met before Barren County Circuit Judge John Alexander to schedule Morrison’s next court date. He said it would probably be April or June before Morrison was seen by the center.

Morrison’s next court date was set for April 14 at 1 p.m.
