The Louisville office of the National Weather Service has Barren County in a winter storm warning until 6 p.m. on Jan. 6.
Initially, the weather service issued a winter storm watch for the area, which meant condition were “favorable” for hazardous winter weather. Over the weekend, however, the National Weather Service upgraded Barren County to a winter storm warning, which is issued when conditions are “occurring, imminent or likely.”
“Light additional ice accumulations will be possible early this morning in freezing drizzle, the service stated. “From mid morning to early afternoon additional snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are expected…Roads, especially bridges and overpasses, are slick and hazardous. Gusty winds today with ice accumulation on power lines and tree limbs may cause additional power outages.”
