The Glasgow Police Department offers safety reminders to those traveling for New Year’s celebrations.

The American Automobile Association estimated that 119.3 million people have traveled during the holiday season. Ninety percent of those traveling will be done by car. With New Year’s celebrations drawing near, the police department took to its social media account advising people to “know their limits” and have a designated driver.

Here are a few tips for having a safe and fun New Year’s Eve.

Know your limits:

Drink alcohol responsibly and stay hydrated
Never leave your drink unattended or accept drinks from strangers
If you plan on drinking, designate a safe and sober driver

Know personal safety precautions:
Always be aware of your surroundings and know exits in case of emergencies
Don’t leave with a stranger without telling someone you know.

Know your transportation plans:
Always share your location so someone knows where you’re going
Have a travel plan to get home safely
Park in well-lit areas
Lock your vehicle and keep personal items out of sight.

The Glasgow Police Department will have additional units out tonight providing extra patrol and enforcing any violations. Report any suspicious activity by dialing 270-651-5151 or for emergency dial 911.
