The Glasgow Public Square and the Barren County Courthouse on the Square will be closed at 2 o’clock on Dec. 20 due to the Whoville on the Square event.

The north and east sides of the Square — the sides with the county clerk’s office and city hall respectively — will be closed at 6 a.m. with the other two sides to follow at 2 p.m., according to Heather Harper with River Lake Church. Festivities will be from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The closure “renders it infeasible for the court of justice to remain open to the public,” the general order signed by Chief Justice John Alexander states.

The order states the courthouse will reopen Monday, Dec. 23, and resume its normal hours.

Glasgow Police Department Public Information Officer Terry Flatt said the blocks nearest the Square on South Green, East Washington and West Main streets will be closed as well. The roads will remain closed until after the event, Flatt wrote.
