Barren County has been placed under a flood watch by the Louisville office of the National Weather Service.

The watch is in effect from midnight till noon Dec. 18.

“Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations,” the service states. “Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be flooded.”

The weather service forecasts showers tonight and possible thunderstorms with a low around 47 degrees Fahrenheit and a 100 percent chance of some rain after midnight. The service further states “South-central Kentucky received 1.0 to 1.5 inches of rainfall over the past 48 hours [with] an additional 1.0 to 1.5 inches of rain late tonight through Wednesday morning.”
