Bowling Park in Edmonton received a contribution from Candela Renewables to buy hams for its annual Christmas food box distribution.
The developer of utility-scale solar power and storage projects stated it is giving $3,00 to the non-profit to purchase hams for each box. The boxes will be given to “nearly 200 Metcalfe County families in need,” according to a press release from Candela Renewables. The boxes include everything required for a holiday dinner, as well as about five days of supplemental food.
“We thank Candela for this generous donation to the park,” said Lisa Boswell, Executive Director of Bowling Park. “December is an expensive month and most of these families will have children at home for two weeks, feeding them breakfast and lunch that they would normally get at school. This causes food budgets to get stretched even tighter.”
Candela Renewables is developing the Summer Shade Solar Project, a photovoltaic solar and storage facility under development in Metcalfe County. The site is located adjacent to the Summer Shade substation off U.S. 90, where electricity will be channeled and then dispersed to homes and businesses served by the local electric grid.
“We prioritize being a good neighbor and giving back to communities where our projects are sited,” said Aubree Muse, Project Development Manager at Candela Renewables. “After meeting Lisa earlier this year and learning about the park’s homeless shelter, food pantry, and recreational services, we knew we wanted to support her and her team’s incredible work.”
