The Glasgow-Barren County Soccer Cooperative Board is currently not pursuing the 14 acres land purchase due to the cost, according to Barren County Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd.

The idea of the land purchase was first broached during the board’s Aug. 27 meeting where Byrd said it was something they should “entertain” as the land could — based on information from American Engineers — add two more fields and additional parking.

According to the Property Valuation Administration’s website, the property, which is behind the current complex and buttresses the Cumberland Parkway, is owned by Burton Subdivision.

Byrd said the offer she received from the owner was $220,000. Byrd serves as the chairperson of the soccer consortium board.

She also mentioned that the county had considered buying the land for practice fields.

“I brought it to [the soccer board] as an option but they were not interested then the county looked at it because of the need for more practice fields,” Byrd wrote. “The property owner sought the county and the cooperative to see if we were interested; at this time neither party is pursuing [it].”
