Sandwiched between turkey and stocking-stuffers, the Glasgow-Barren County Tourism office is gearing up for its annual Small Business Saturday basket giveaway on Nov. 30.
Starting at 9:30 a.m. at the Tourism Office on East Public Square, the event will feature 150 prize baskets filled with items from local businesses—an increase from last year’s 100 baskets.
According to Tourism Director MacLean Lessenberry, last year’s event was an overwhelming success, with all baskets claimed within just nine minutes. “Last year we started at 9:30 and had to end at 9:39.”
“This year, we’re calling it a ‘goody-grab’ to reinforce shopping small,” she said. “Participants in our social media giveaways will also have a chance to win $1,000 cash if they shop small on Saturday.” This prize comes on top of chances to win gift cards to local shops valuing $2,000.
The basket giveaway is designed to spotlight Glasgow’s diverse small businesses and inspire local shopping during the holiday season. In regards to Tourism’s role in the event Lessenberry said, “We [Barren County] have become a great holiday destination, with a ton of locally owned shops for holiday shopping, as well as the largest Christmas parade in the state.”
With over a dozen locally owned shops offering unique goods and seasonal promotions, the event aligns with the nationwide Small Business Saturday initiative, which emphasizes the economic importance of shopping locally.
“It’s going to be really fun, and really all we want to do is pump everybody up,” Lessenberry explained.
The giveaway will operate on a first-come, first-served basis, so participants are encouraged to arrive early. For updates and additional details, visit the Glasgow-Barren County Tourism website or follow their social media channels.
