Accidents happen in elementary schools, and students may need clean clothes, so the Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library is collecting new underwear and socks during its Drop Your Drawers donation drive that will last until Dec. 14.

Items need to be children’s sizes 4-16, as well as new and in the original package, and they will be sent to family resource centers in local schools.

Amy Tollison, adult services manager at the library, said these donations help students stay in the classroom.

“You don’t want to have a kid who’s had a problem and they’re out of class,” she said. “We want to be able to get them taken care of and back in the class so they can keep learning.”

Tollison added that these donations help family resource centers allocate their funding to other items and needs.

Community members who want to donate can bring items to the library.
