Mr. James Carl Gill, age 97, of Tompkinsville, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at NHC Healthcare of Glasgow. James Carl was born on December 12, 1926, a son of the late Carl Wilson and Ella (Proffitt) Gill. James was a Rural Mail Carrier for forty-five years, an avid farmer, a member of the American Legion, a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the Polled Hereford Association, and was the Fifth District Magistrate for thirteen years. He was a member of the Tompkinsville First Baptist Church. James Carl served in World War II.
James Carl is survived by two sons, Greg Gill and wife Cathy of Glasgow, and Tim Gill and wife Virginia of Tompkinsville, a daughter, Nancy Rush and husband Waylon of Glasgow. Six grandchildren, Michael Gill and wife Amy, Karla Cloyd and husband Kevin, Courtney Johnson and husband Josh, Mary Edwards and husband Justin, Susan Foster, and Gill Thomas and wife Kelsey. Eight great-grandchildren, Jake Gill, Kennedy Gill, Payton Stinson and husband Logan, Madison Cloyd, Mckenna Johnson, Britten Foster, JT Thomas, and Bo Thomas also survive.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Isabelle (Emberton) Gill, and a sister, Nelena Gill Howard.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 18, 2024 at Bartley & Sons Funeral Home in Tompkinsville, with burial to follow in Monroe County Memorial Lawn. Tom Stokes and Bro. Darrick Proffitt will officiate the service.
Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2024, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. and again Friday morning after 7:00 a.m. until the of service at 1:00 p.m.
