James Worthington

James Worthington, 89, of Bowling Green, passed away on October 3. He was born near Conover, Ohio in Miami County to the late Grace Annis Caven and Hugh Feaster Worthington. He was a graduate of Brown Local High School and Ohio State University where he received his PhD in 1971. He was professor and twice served as Acting Department Head in the Department of Agriculture at Western Kentucky University and retired in 1997. He served a term as President of the North Central Weed Science Society. He was an elder in the Bowling Green Presbyterian Church and Master Mason in Social Lodge #217, Lena Ohio. Jim was a longtime supporter of men’s basketball at Western.

Jim will be greatly missed by his wife of 68 years, Maxine Calland Worthington, daughter Kristal Lowe (Joe) and son Gregory Worthington all of Bowling Green. Daughter Kelly Moore (Jefferson) of Louisville; grandchildren Erica Kunkel (Randall) of Louisville, Lauren Martinez (Nathan) of Gallatin, TN, Shelby Wheeler (Cory), and Branden Worthington all of Bowling Green. Also missing Gpa are great grandchildren Connor, Thatcher and Daphne Kunkel of Louisville, Griffin Martinez of Gallatin, TN, and Marshall Wheeler of Bowling Green. He will also be missed by sister Janet (Jack), Fletcher, Ohio. Brothers Norman, Ronald, and Allen preceded him in death.

Jim chose to be cremated and a private service will be held. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Bowling Green. At this time, services haven been entrusted to J.C. Kirby and Son Lovers Lane Chapel.
