2nd Annual Spirit Week Celebration Held On Glasgow Square

Sep 18, 2024 | 7:33 PM

GLASGOW – On Wednesday, Glasgow and Barren County High Schools took over the Glasgow square to bolster excitement for Friday’s gridiron showdown.

The event was hosted by the city of Glasgow and Barren County Judge Executive, Jamie Bewley Byrd, who expressed the importance of using this crosstown rivalry to bring the community together.

“It’s about appreciating what we have here in Barren County and showing these athletes that we support them,” said Byrd. “The school system as well as our kids and athletes are all coming together to support each other, and bringing everyone together is the biggest thing.”

This will be just the second time in eight years that Glasgow and Barren County battle on the football field. The Trojans will look to rebound against the Scotties after losing a nail-biter last season at Hank Royse Stadium, 36-35 in double overtime.

“I’m standing here in awe of how many people who are friends, regardless of the rivalry, that grew up together, and have played in little leagues together… it’s just a really great time,” said Glasgow Mayor Henry Royse. “I love the fact that [Spirit Week] happens and that everyone has the chance to pull for each other.”

The undefeated Trojans will play host to the Scotties of Glasgow at Trojan Field on Friday, September 20 with kickoff slated for 7PM. Glasgow is coming off their first loss of the season as the Patriots of Allen County-Scottsville defeated the Scotties 32-15 on September 13. Barren County is hoping to continue their undefeated streak after playing impressive football for the first four weeks.

WCLU will have the video and radio broadcast of the game with pregame coverage beginning at 6:30PM on 103.1FM and 1490AM, online at wcluradio.com/scottie, and on WCLURadio and the Scottie Channel on YouTube.
