The People’s Bank Celebrates First Anniversary of Cave City Location with Emphasis on Community-Centered Banking

Sep 1, 2024 | 6:10 PM

On Friday, August 30, The People’s Bank celebrated the first anniversary of its Cave City location. The event, held at 600 Mammoth Cave Street, drew local residents, business owners, and community leaders to partake in festivities that included food trucks, refreshments, and giveaways. But beyond the celebrations, the day stood as an attestation to the enduring value of local banking and its role in fostering community ties.

WCLU spoke with Terry Bunnell, President of The People’s Bank, who reflected on the past year and the institution’s commitment to serving the local community.

“When we opened this branch a year ago, our goal was to offer more than just financial services. We wanted to build a space that feels like a part of Cave City, a place where people feel connected and supported,” Bunnell shared. At the heart of The People’s Bank’s approach is a deep-rooted belief in the power of local banking. Bunnell emphasized that while national banks may offer similar services, the personal touch of a community bank can make all the difference.

A key part of The People’s Bank’s strategy to better serve its clients has been the integration of Kasasa, a suite of rewards-based checking and savings accounts designed to give customers more for their money. Kasasa products offer cash back, high-interest returns, and other benefits that incentivize customers to keep their banking local.

“Kasasa has been a game-changer for us,” Bunnell noted. “It allows us to offer competitive rates and rewards while staying true to our community-first philosophy.”

The People’s Bank, originally founded with the mission to provide personalized financial solutions, has always prioritized community engagement. Over the past year, the Cave City branch has not only offered financial products but has also sponsored local events, supported small businesses, and participated in charitable activities.

This commitment to the community has resonated with customers, who appreciate the bank’s hands-on approach. As the Cave City branch enters its second year, Bunnell is optimistic about the future.

“We’re looking forward to continuing our journey here in Cave City, growing alongside this vibrant community. We’re committed to evolving with our customers’ needs and finding new ways to give back,” he said.

For many attendees, Friday’s celebration was not just about free refreshments and giveaways—it was a reminder of the crucial role that local banks play in supporting and nurturing the communities they serve.

As The People’s Bank looks to the future, one thing remains clear: its pledge to Cave City is as strong as ever, rooted in the belief that community and banking should go hand in hand.
