If it’s a little slice of retro infused americana, you’re looking for, go no further than Stockton Street in Edmonton, where you will find Gene’s Freeze and Skating Rink looking much the way it did when poodle skirts and Bobby socks were in fashion.
This week, the Edmonton eatery, which still serves old-fashioned milkshakes, burgers, and fries just like it did when it opened in 1958, celebrated its 66th anniversary.
“The freeze”, as many generations have called it, has been more than a favorite place for locals to eat. It’s been a small town hangout for the young, the old and even the occasional dog. None of which would have been possible without Gene and Geneva Wyatt, who opened Gene’s Freeze back in 1958.
Sandy Curry has carried on the family tradition. The food and atmosphere has remained the same through the decades.
