In an effort to make driver’s license testing more accessible to young Kentuckians, the Kentucky State Police (KSP) has launched a new pilot program that will benefit residents of Barren County and four other counties across the state.
Starting September 1, this initiative will introduce pop-up testing locations specifically designed to serve teenagers aged 18 and younger who are seeking to obtain their intermediate driver’s licenses.
For Barren County residents, the testing will take place at 100 Weldon Park in Glasgow, offering a more convenient option compared to traveling to permanent regional offices in other counties. This program is particularly important for reducing disruptions to school and work schedules, as it minimizes the need for long commutes just to take a driving test.
Governor Andy Beshear emphasized the significance of this program, noting that by bringing these services closer to home, Kentucky can ensure safer roads by equipping young drivers with the necessary skills right in their own communities.
The pilot program is set to run through June 2026, with the possibility of expanding based on demand. Appointments are required and can be made through the KSP’s online scheduling system, ensuring that teens can secure their testing slots in advance.
This move is part of a broader effort by the Kentucky State Police to improve the accessibility and convenience of driver testing across the state, with Barren County being a key participant in this forward-thinking initiative.
