Roger Lee Steele, age 79, of Bowling Green, KY, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2024 at Hospice of Southern Kentucky. Roger was born March 6, 1945 to his late parents, Frank Steele Sr. and Jeanette Morris Steele. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers, Frank Steele, Jr., Donald “Don” Steele, and Thomas “Tommy” Steele.
Roger knew and loved Jesus; he was a member of Broadway United Methodist Church. Roger could often be found walking at Greenwood Mall. While he may have been a slow walker, he was always quick with a joke. He enjoyed car shows, Andy Griffith re-runs, and mowing his yard.
Roger is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Christine Basham Steele; daughter, Amy Russell (Grady); three grandchildren, Alisha Snodgrass (Cade), Hannah Russell and Jonathan Russell; one brother, Gary Steele (Pat); one sister, Georgia Guthrie (Jim); sister-in-laws, Louise Steele, Nancy Steele, and Debbie Steele; several nieces and nephews; as well as his beloved feline friends, Andy and TreeTop.
Roger was a Matco Tools salesman. He loved making friends along his route and proudly served the Bowling Green community for twenty-three years.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, August 29, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Johnson Vaughn Phelps Funeral Home with private burial at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
