Sulphur Well’s historic scavenger hunt is new addition to longtime tradition

Aug 15, 2024 | 1:53 PM

The hamlet of Sulphur Well in northern Metcalfe County is steeped in history, and for the first time ever the third weekend in August celebration and homecoming will offer a historic scavenger hunt, suitable for all ages.

The tradition of the Sulphur Well homecoming began almost 100 years ago when families would gather in the community for fellowship. What was once called “the grove” would fill with people, music, and food.

For the past 23 years there has also been an annual duck race along the south fork of Little Barren River in Sulphur Well Park.

Winners of the hunt will be entered in the duck race, which will take place Saturday, Aug. 17 at 5:00 p.m.

There will also be live music, games, and an antique car show.  The evening will conclude with fireworks.
