On the evening of August 7, a routine patrol by the Cave City Police Department took a concerning turn when Officer Wesley Hicks encountered a black pickup truck that appeared to be operating dangerously on Happy Valley Street.
The vehicle, which swerved into the officer’s lane, narrowly avoided a collision with Officer Hicks’ patrol car. Further troubling behavior was observed as Officer Hicks conducted a registration check on the vehicle. The truck, driven by an individual later identified as 32-year-old Josephine Garmon, continued to exhibit erratic driving patterns, swerving across the center divider line and nearly colliding head-on with another vehicle before veering back toward the fog line.
The officer, responding to these hazardous actions, initiated a traffic stop.
Upon stopping the vehicle, Officer Hicks determined that Garmon was under the influence of alcohol, which Garmon later admitted, confessing to having consumed whiskey prior to the encounter.
The situation escalated in seriousness when it was discovered that a juvenile was present inside the vehicle, further compounding the risks of Garmon’s impaired driving.
As a result of the investigation, Garmon faced multiple charges including reckless driving, operating a vehicle without a registration plate or receipt, lacking insurance, and wanton endangerment in the first degree. The charge of DUI, marking Garmon’s third offense, stresses the severity of the incident.
Following the arrest, Garmon was transported to the Barren County Detention Center.
