Barren County names Jon Myatt its new head softball coach

Aug 5, 2024 | 4:11 PM

GLASGOW – On Monday, Barren County athletic director, Warren Cunningham welcomed Jon Myatt as the school’s newest head softball coach.

“It was a prefect fit and an easy choice to hire [Jon] here at Barren County High School,” said athletic director Warren Cunningham. “He has great knowledge of our players and the program, and he’s very comfortable with those relationships.” “We certainly have the foundation to continue what we’ve done and build on that.”

Myatt, who currently serves as principal at the Barren County Area Technology Center, most recently coached the Trojan baseball team in 2009 and 2010. During his two year tenure as head coach, Myatt was 32-31, reaching the 15th District Championship in 2009.

“It’s truly a blessing to get to walk into a situation that coach [Daryl] Murphy left the program in,” said Myatt. “I’m super excited to see where this goes and I just want to keep moving our girls forward and bring home that regional title to Barren County.” For the full interview with new softball head coach, Jon Myatt, click below:

The Trojanette softball team finished last season with a 28-8 record, claiming the 15th District Championship before falling to South Warren in the 4th Region Championship, 4-2, at WKU’s Softball Complex on May 30th.

“He’s a Barren County guy and is vested in the program,” said former head coach Daryl Murphy. “His willingness to get in there and continue the progress that we’ve made over the last nine years, I have no doubt that he’ll do a great job with that.” Listen to WCLU’s full interview with Daryl Murphy below:
