Jul 12, 2024 | 6:00 AM

On July 26, the Glasgow Police Department will host its annual “Cram the Cruiser” event to support local students and teachers with much-needed school supplies. This community-wide school supply drive will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with drop-off locations at Walmart and Dollar General on Happy Valley Road.

The event, sponsored by the Glasgow Police Department and the Barren County Sheriff’s Department, aims to gather a variety of school supplies to ensure students are well-equipped for the upcoming academic year. GPD Major Terry Flatt spoke about the goal of the drive

Items needed include backpacks, binders, glue sticks, sharpie markers, pencils, erasers, loose leaf paper, notebooks (both college and wide-ruled), safety scissors, composition notebooks, markers, hand sanitizer, folders, sketch pads, crayons, coloring pencils, construction paper, and bottled glue.

All collected supplies will benefit Glasgow and Barren County students. These resources will be distributed throughout the school year by local guidance counselors, ensuring that they reach those who need them most. This initiative is crucial in supporting the educational needs of the community and helping students succeed academically.

Flatt emphasized the significance of community participation in such events.

“Cram the Cruiser is not just about gathering supplies; it’s about the community coming together to support our children and their education,” he said. “We encourage everyone to donate and make a difference in the lives of our students.”

Community members are encouraged to bring their donations and contribute to this worthy cause. The collaboration between local law enforcement and the community showcases a unified effort to enhance educational opportunities and support for students and teachers in the region.
