Mrs. Arla Bessie (Carlock) Hammer

Mrs. Arla Bessie (Carlock) Hammer, age 97, of Tompkinsville, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2024, at Signature Health Care. Bessie was born in Tompkinsville, on April 16, 1927, to the late Clyde Carlock and Myrta (Harlan) Carlock. Bessie was a lifelong homemaker taking care of her husband Raymond and raising her three children. She was a member of the Tompkinsville First Baptist Church where she took part in many areas.

She is survived by a daughter Paula Hurley, two sons; Duane Hammer and wife Dana, and Brian Hammer (Amy McIntyre), seven grandchildren; Julia Blunt and husband Jason, Carmen Enlow and husband Jon, Daniel Hammer and wife Meaghan, Lauren Hammer (Clay Carnahan), Ty Hammer and wife Amber, Drew Hammer, Joel Stewart and wife Cathy. Six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, as well as many loved nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years Raymond Hammer, a daughter-in-law Kellie Hammer, and her siblings Ida Cassie McCreary, Nina Hammer, J.C. Carlock, and Zella Myatt.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 7, 2024, at Bartley and Sons Funeral Home, with burial to follow in the Mill Creek Cemetery.  Bro. Darrick Proffitt and Bro. Deven Smith will be officiating the service.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home, and again on Sunday morning after 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mill Creek Cemetery or to the Tompkinsville First Baptist Church in honor of Bessie. Those may be made at the funeral home.
