Glasgow’s First Responders Compete in Life-Saving Blood Drive

Jun 18, 2024 | 6:00 AM

In a spirited and life-saving competition, the Glasgow Police Department, Fire Department, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) are set to face off in the annual “Battle of the Badges” blood drive.

This year’s event, slated for Friday, June 21st, promises to be a dynamic display of community solidarity as these vital service organizations vie to see who can garner the most blood donations. The competition aims to address the critical need for blood donations during the summer months, a time when blood supplies often run dangerously low. Glasgow Police Department Major Terry Flatt spoke on the history of the event.

It also serves to highlight the unity and camaraderie among Glasgow’s first responders, who, despite their friendly rivalry, share a common mission of saving lives. Members of the public are warmly invited to participate by donating blood and casting their vote for their favorite department. The blood drive will be held at the South-Central Bank Operations Center community room at 501 S L Rogers Wells Boulevard in Glasgow from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Donors can register upon arrival and specify which department—police, fire, or EMS—they would like their donation to count towards.

The Glasgow community is known for its strong spirit of collaboration and mutual support, and the “Battle of the Badges” blood drive is a perfect example of this ethos in action.

As the departments gear up for the friendly competition, the ultimate victory will be shared by the entire community, united in their efforts to save lives.
