During the four-hour event, dedicated volunteers and staff served around 85 plates, delighting attendees with fried fish and an assortment of side dishes.

The shelter’s team worked tirelessly to ensure the event ran smoothly, and their efforts were met with resounding success.

In a thank you letter Jessie wrote, “The Metcalfe County Animal Shelter (MCAS) would like to extend our appreciation to everyone that attended the Fish Fry event and all that donated the highly enjoyed “Home-Cooked Sides and Desserts”. MCAS would also like to thank, The Metcalfe County Chamber of Commerce for promoting the event, and each person that donated their time working the event. A special thank you to the Edmonton Masonic Lodge (#931) for hosting the event, procuring and preparing the Fish Fry. We at the shelter look forward to partnering with Edmonton’s Masonic Lodge again for raising awareness and support for our orphaned furry friends. Last but certainly not the least; The Metcalfe County Animal Shelter would like to extend our heartfelt admiration and appreciation to the patrons that attended just to donate and show their support our furry friends.”

While the $1,300 raised will help cover immediate needs such as food, medical supplies, and general maintenance, the shelter is also eyeing a more ambitious goal.

Plans are in motion to move into a new building that will provide more space and better facilities for the animals and staff. The success of the fish fry has injected fresh enthusiasm and hope into this long-term project.

The collaboration with Masonic Lodge #931 played a crucial role in the event’s success. The Lodge not only assisted with organizing and promoting the fish fry but also expressed a keen interest in future partnerships to support the shelter. Lonnie Jessie, Master Mason of the lodge spoke on how the animal shelter’s mission resonated with the members of the lodge.
