The South-Central Rural Telecommunications Cooperative (SCRTC) has been nominated for the prestigious Best of the Barrens Award, an annual recognition celebrating outstanding local businesses in the Barren County area.
The nomination highlights SCRTC’s significant contributions to the community through its exceptional telecommunications services and community engagement efforts. Christian Kaumanns, a representative with SCRTC spoke with WCLU about the co-op.
The Best of the Barrens Award, determined by a community vote, honors businesses that exemplify excellence in their field, provide exceptional customer service, and positively impact the local economy. SCRTC’s nomination underscores its role as a vital service provider, connecting rural communities to essential communication networks and internet services.
Founded in 1950, SCRTC has grown to become a cornerstone of connectivity in South Central Kentucky.
The cooperative provides a range of services, including high-speed internet, telephone, and digital TV, to both residential and business customers across several counties. Its efforts to expand broadband access, especially in rural and underserved areas, have been widely recognized as instrumental in fostering economic development and enhancing the quality of life for residents.
Kaumanns, speaking on behalf of the co-op and his colleagues thanked the community for their support.
Community members are encouraged to cast their votes for the Best of the Barrens Award, with the winners set to be announced at a gala event June 21st.
