Barren County Responds to Storm with Power Restoration Efforts and Free Debris Disposal Site

May 28, 2024 | 3:23 PM

In the wake of a recent storm, Barren County officials are actively addressing extensive tree coverage on several roads, primarily in the southern half of the county.

Road crews have been diligently working to clear the roadways and are now transitioning to cleanup efforts. As of the latest update, 343 Farmers RECC residents remain without power. However, crews are working tirelessly to restore electricity to all affected areas. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported in connection with the storm.

To aid in the cleanup, Barren County has established a free vegetation debris disposal site for residents. From Wednesday, May 28th, to June 14th, community members can bring their natural vegetation debris, such as brush and tree limbs, to the Lower Lot of the Barren County Road Department, located at 150 County Barn Road in Glasgow.

The service is available from 8a.m. to 4p.m. daily, with electronic signs guiding participants to the designated drop-off area. Participants are required to unload their own debris upon arrival.

“This is a community-focused effort to assist residents with their natural waste disposal needs,” said Marcus Thurman, Solid Waste Coordinator. “We want to emphasize that this service is not intended for commercial tree services to profit from.”

In addition to local efforts, the National Weather Service will be arriving on Wednesday to conduct a survey and determine the nature and extent of the storm’s impact on the county. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through official channels for further updates on debris disposal and power restoration efforts.

For more information about the debris disposal site, residents can contact Marcus Thurman at (270) 629-5933.
