GLASGOW, KY – Congressman Brett Guthrie was in Barren County on Monday to present military appointments to two Barren County High School Seniors. Katelyn Huffaker and John Edberg will enter into two different academies after graduating high school. Huffaker will attend the United States Air Force Academy and Edberg will enter the U.S. Naval Academy. Once an aspiring person goes through the rigorous application process and accepts the roles and responsibilities of becoming a cadet, they receive a Congressional Appointment. A large crowd of supporters watched the ceremony.
Guthrie, a graduate of West Point himself, spoke with personal knowledge on what the two young people will go through over the next few years of their life. While he attended his post-secondary alongside many of the country’s most well-known military leaders, his comments reflected on the possibility that one of these two BCHS students could be among the next generation of men and women to lead the United States military.
Huffaker says she feels the responsibility of taking on such an ambitious pathway for herself.
