Glasgow, KY  –  May 21st is the date for the primary election.  The ballot will include presidential primary races on both sides as well as a congressional primary in the 2nd district.  In Barren County each individual voter in the household will soon be receiving a postcard in the mail from the Barren County Clerk’s office notifying each voter what voting precinct they are in.

Barren County Clerk Helena Chase Birdwell is urging citizens to not be confused by the postcard they are receiving in the mail.  On election day, Barren County voters will still be able to vote at any one of the 9 voting centers in Barren County.    For example, a person may live near Glasgow Middle School, but if they were in Hiseville working that day, they could vote at Hiseville Elementary School.

May 7th is still the last day to request an absentee ballot.  Early excused voting will still take place in the Clerk’s office on the Glasgow Public Square May 8th through the 10th from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm and on May 13th through the 15th at the same times.  Also, just like last election, no-excuse early voting will take place at the UK Ag Extension Office at 1463 West Main Street in Glasgow on May 16th through the 18th from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

The postcard you’ll be receiving as a voter is to fulfill a Kentucky Revised Statute obligation to notify voters when reapportionment has been changed  by the county’s reapportionment board after a United States Census.  Some changes were made last summer in Barren County.  Formerly, the county had 25 precincts.  Now, Barren county has 14.  This is not due to a drop in population, but due to recommendations from state authorities. Magisterial districts changed for very few voters.

While all counties have voting precincts, in Barren County, there’s not a voting location for every precinct, like was done in the past.  In Barren County, rather, there are 9 voting locations.  Birdwell, again, urges citizens to not be confused by the postcard.  Any registered Barren County voter can vote at any one of the 9 voting centers in Barren County on May 21st for the primary election.

Those locations will be on the voter postcard you receive, as a reminder.  Those locations are:

Barren County High School

Cave Area Conference Center (formerly known as “Cave CIty Convention Center”

Austin Tracy Volunteer Fire Department

Haywood Volunteer Fire Department

Hiseville Elementary School

Park City Lions Club

Temple Hill Elementary School

Beckton Community Center

Glasgow Middle School
