The Barren River Animal Welfare Association (BRAWA) hosted a heartwarming and successful fundraising event, the Derby Dog Festival at the Barren River State Park over the weekend. Robin Craine, BRAWA Vice-President spoke to WCLU about the event.
Pet owners and animal lovers alike gathered for a day filled with fun activities while supporting a noble cause. The event proved to be a resounding success, raising an impressive $6,000 for the welfare of animals in need.
The festival offered a variety of engaging activities tailored for pets and their owners. From spirited dog races to playful competitions showcasing the talents of furry companions, there was no shortage of entertainment. Craine outlined just some of the activities that the event offered.
The picturesque backdrop of Barren River State Park added to the charm of the event, with attendees enjoying the natural beauty while indulging in the festivities.
Families and their four-legged friends mingled with fellow animal enthusiasts, forging connections and sharing stories of their beloved pets. Craine elaborated on the shelter’s expectations and how they were exceeded.
Funds raised during the event will play a crucial role in supporting BRAWA’s mission of providing shelter, care, and advocacy for animals in need within the Barren River community. The generous contributions will go towards medical treatment, spaying and neutering efforts, as well as facilitating adoptions to loving forever homes.
More specifically, after the tragic flooding that occurred last year, BRAWA has begun a project to construct a berm around the shelter mitigating potential flood damage.
This project is no small feat for the non-profit and funds raised from Saturday’s Derby will no doubt expediate the construction of the new safety measure.
The success of the event underscores the unwavering commitment of the Barren River community to the well-being of its furry residents. Through their collective efforts, BRAWA and its supporters continue to make a positive difference in the lives of animals, one wagging tail at a time.
As the sun set on a day filled with laughter, camaraderie, and compassion, attendees departed with hearts full of joy, knowing that their contributions will leave a lasting impact on the lives of animals in need.
With the success of the event BRAWA looks forward to continuing its mission of championing the welfare of animals and fostering a community where every pet receives the care and love it deserves.
