GLASGOW –  Glasgow High School Athletic Director Bailey Garmon announced Brandon Stockton as the new Boys Head Basketball coach for the Scotties on Monday. Stockton, one of the programs most famed alumnus, has been a part of the Glasgow basketball program since 2010.  From hosting youth camps to coaching in the middle school program, and most recently, as assistant coach for GHS, the 2002 Kentucky Mr. Basketball and former point guard for coach Orlando “Tubby” Smith’s University of Kentucky Wildcats is focusing on the principle of hard work to see his team gain the success he genuinely wants for the program and the student-athletes he’ll be leading.

In a press conference held Monday at the school’s cafeteria, current players alongside friends, family, and Scottie faithful were excited to hear the announcement of the new coach. None more so than former Scottie Head Coach Bart Flener, who was in attendance for the presser.  Stockton credited his former coach for the type of influence he had in his life.  In his address to the fans, he had these comments about being able to pass that influence on to the next generation that will don the blue and white jersey:

Stockton, in 2002, was named Mr. Kentucky Basketball, Gatorade Player of the Year, and named player of the year by both the Louisville Courier Journal and the Lexington Herald-Leader.  He was a consensus two-time First Team All-State player in 2001 and 2002.  At the University of Kentucky, his teams won 2 SEC Tournament titles and 2 regular season conference championships.  As a professional, he won the 2009 ABA World Championship with the Kentucky Bisons.

Just recently added to his resume, was his induction into the Dawahare’s/KHSAA Hall of Fame for his contributions to the game of basketball in the state.  Stockton spoke on that honor with WCLU.

The Glasgow native and 2002 graduate of the school also said he had “not made his mind up, yet”, about any assistant coaching positions, as of the date of the press conference held Monday.
