The Barren County Fiscal Court held its April meeting on Tuesday.  The fiscal year budget was approved unanimously on first reading.  Magistrate Brad Groce told the court that this year’s budget is ten percent less than last year’s budget.  Groce, who chairs the finance committee, commented on the decrease.

Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd echoed Groce’s comments, saying the finance committee really looked at every line item in the budget.

In other business, Magistrate Jeff Botts was given the floor to make some special remarks about the recent passing of his father, Carlton, and the professionalism he witnessed from Barren County Coroner, Tim Gibson, and his deputies.

Several other key annual items were taken care of, including road construction materials bids and the purchase of the county’s first tri-axle dump truck.  Magistrate Tim Coomer told the court it would save the road crew a lot of time on the road.

Private roads in the county will be getting new road signs in the color of blue, not green.  More on that and other news from Barren County government tomorrow.
