Glasgow, KY  –  Bo Matthews will be retiring at the end of this school year as Superintendent of the Barren County Schools system.  The Superintendent Search Screening Committee held their first meeting Tuesday night.

The committee is made of the following members:  Classified Employee Leigh Ann Allbright from Central Office, and formerly, Austin Tracy Elementary; Board of Education member representative Brad High; Principal representative member Erika Devore; Parent representative Trevor Phillips; Teacher representatives Jennifer Clemmons from Barren Middle and High School, and Robin McMurtrey of Hiseville Elementary; and, minority representative Shana Vincent of Red Cross Elementary.

The committee will meet numerous times over the next several weeks, but those meetings will be held in closed session, to review the 20 applications for superintendent that were submitted during the advertised 30-day period.  The screening committee will offer 3-5 candidates to the Barren County Board of Education for consideration.  The goal is for that to take place at the May 14th meeting at 5:00pm.

Board Chair Shelley Groce gave this charge to the screening committee.

Amongst other recommendations to the committee from the board are that “the successful candidate should have previous administrative experience” and “a demonstrated record of improving student achievement.”

Of the 20 applicants, two are currently superintendents, seven work in a central office in a school district, three are principals, four come from Educational organizations, three are teachers, and one is retired.
