(Glasgow, KY)  The Barren County Fiscal Court met Tuesday morning.  Judge Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd was on record stating this meeting was the longest meeting the fiscal court has had since she took office in 2023.  However, a lot of county business was taken care of.

In light of that, and to better inform you, today WCLU local news will focus on two agenda items: On Thursday, we will discuss Cerebral Palsey Month, and the construction taking place at Jackie Browning Park, and the soccer fields. A final rundown of county updates will air Friday about Barren County Clean-Up week, which will also include the City of Glasgow.  Just a “heads-up”; no tires.  That date is in May.

The Barren Fiscal court approved a resolution of an interlocal agreement for mowing services within all endzones of exit 11 interchange where the Louie B. Nunn Cumberland Parkway merges onto US 31-E, as well as locations on the Veteran’s Memorial Outer Loop where fencing exists near the TSC location, all the way up to the adjacent property to Marquee Cinemas.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet regularly mows 3 times per year at these sites, leaving the gateways to our community often overgrown and not well-maintained.  The resolution approved by all magistrates but Tim Coomer (Dist. 4), will provide for 8 additional mowings per year, including the contractors requirement to mow the hillsides with special implements.

The county, itself, is matching a $31,500 contribution from the city of Glasgow.

Judge Byrd explains:

A non-profit organization known as Beautify Barren County will also be putting up welcome signs in the area.

Magistrate District 3, Tim Durham, expressed why the county government should consider taking a chance on this new approach.

The next Barren Fiscal Court meeting is April 16th.
