In a heartfelt celebration of commitment and passion, Nellie Pickett, a beloved figure in the local broadcasting scene, marked her remarkable 30-year anniversary at WCLU radio. This jubilant occasion was a testament to her unwavering dedication and invaluable contributions to both the station and the community it serves.

Pickett’s journey with WCLU began when radio was quite a bit different, without many of the amenities that are now commonplace.

Starting in 1994, Pickett was hired by, now Glasgow Mayor, Henry Royse to run “traffic” for the station. Pickett recalls the very different reactions of Royce’s children when she started.

Reflecting on her tenure, Pickett expressed profound gratitude for the opportunity to be the conduit between the station and its listeners. “I talk to so many people on the phone daily that I have never met in person, but I still feel like we are good friends,” she remarked. “I have typed so many birthdays over the years; I can remember many of them without actually knowing the people.”

Throughout her time at the station, Pickett has left an indelible mark on the airwaves, and has been integral in covering a myriad of topics ranging from local news and events to inspirational stories and interviews. Her ability to connect with listeners on a personal level has been the cornerstone of her success, fostering a sense of unity and belonging within the community.

Colleagues lauded Pickett for her professionalism, resilience, and unwavering commitment to making WCLU a fun place to work. Former WCLU employee Gale Berry recounts her time with Pickett at the station.

As Pickett embarks on the next chapter of her illustrious career, her legacy remains firmly entrenched in the fabric of WCLU radio. Her 30-year milestone serves as a testament to the enduring power of genuine connection and the profound impact of dedicated service.

Her old friend, Mayor Royse, summed up his time with Pickett.
