BOWLING GREEN – The Barren County Trojans’ season has come to a close after falling to Cumberland County 54-50 in the boys 4th Region Tournament on Tuesday. The Trojans finishes the season going 20-12 overall, 14-6 in region play, and 5-3 in the district.
“I’m very proud of them,” said coach Warren Cunningham. “We’ve had a really good season. I’m especially proud of our five seniors and their contribution and work ethic, the way they go about their business and handle theirselves, and most importantly, the type of young men they are.”
Junior guard, Tate Spillman led the way for the Trojans with 18 points and 4 rebounds. Other scorers for Barren County include, Brey Bewley (17 PTS, 1 REB), Graham Hall (4 PTS, 4 REB), Mason Bunch (3PTS, 4 REB), Kade Hardy (3PTS, 3 REB), Cash Moore (3PTS), and William Compton (2 PTS, 1 REB).
The matchup saw a tightly-contested first quarter with the edge going to the Panthers as they led 13-12. Both teams struggled to score in the second quarter, but Cumberland County outscored the Trojans 9-8 and took a 22-20 lead going into the half. Barren County responded in the third quarter going 58% from the field and grabbing a 38-34 lead. However, the Panthers outscored the Trojans 20-12 in the fourth quarter and never looked back, winning the game, 54-50.
