SCOTTSVILLE – The battle between home town rivals ended in victory for Glasgow after they defeated the Barren County Trojans Friday night at Allen County-Scottsville High School.

The matchup went in the Scotties’ favor following an 18 point performance from sophomore guard, Jerrick Martin. With tonight’s victory, head coach, William Buford gets his 1st district championship as a Scottie, and the school picks up their 18th.

“It means the world to me to bring a championship back home to Glasgow,” said Buford. “The kids bought into what we were selling and what we were doing and they saw that it works. Belief is a strong thing. When you believe that you can win, anything can happen”. Watch and listen to WCLU’s full interview with coach Buford below:

Sophomore guard, Jerrick Martin lead the way for the Scotties with 18 points off 6-7 shooting from field-goal range, 6-11 from the free-throw line and 9 rebounds. Other scorers for Glasgow include, JC Walbert (14 PTS, 5-7 FG, 2-3 FT, 5 REB), Jaylen Bradley (13 PTS, 5-6 FG, 2-2 FT, 4 REB), JoJo Driver (9 PTS, 2-7 FG, 5-6 FT, 3 REB), Quinn Nunley (8 PTS, 4-5 FG, 1 REB), Jeremiah Driver (7 PTS, 3-3 FG, 1 REB), and Landon Minton (5 PTS, 2-2 FG, 4 REB).

“It feels great,” said Martin. “It’s something we’ve talked about the whole season, so just to get it done, it feels good.” Martin reiterated that the focus now shifts to the region tournament at E.A. Diddle Arena in Bowling Green. “We just have to keep working hard in practice. No plays off. I feel like, with Diddle, they got a bigger court, so I feel like we can deal a lot of damage”. Watch and listen as WCLU speaks with guard Jerrick Martin after Glasgow’s 72-64 win over Barren County below:

The Scotties took an early 14-9 lead at the end of a competitive first quarter. Glasgow added 17 points in the second quarter while only allowing 6 points, taking a 31-15 lead at the half. Region matchups will be decided via a draw that will take place Saturday, March 2 at 9 AM at Warren East High School in Bowling Green.
