Allen County-Scottsville’s Avery Morris makes history with 1000th career point

Feb 20, 2024 | 12:02 PM

SCOTTSVILLE – On February 9, Avery Morris made Lady Patriot history following her 1000th career point as she became the first to reach this momentous achievement as a freshman.

Morris’s basket came early in the first quarter of the Lady Patriots’ 52-51 victory over the Lady Scotties of Glasgow on February 9th at Glasgow Scottie Gym.

“It meant a lot,” said Morris. “It feels so good to me that I’ve been blessed with this and that my family and teammates have supported me and had my back”.

Morris joined the Allen County-Scottsville basketball program as a seventh grader averaging 6.9 points/game while shooting 39 percent from field goal range and 67 percent from the free-throw line. Returning her eighth grade season, Avery led the team in scoring, averaging 14.6 points/game while shooting 47 percent from the field and 41 percent from outside the arc. Now finishing up her freshman season, Morris leads the team, currently averaging 21.3 points/game while shooting 48 percent from field goal range and 76 percent from the free-throw line.

“I knew at the moment [Morris’s first varsity play] that good things were coming,” said head coach Greg Dunn. “I said to my coaches ‘she’s a great one and she’s gonna be starting very soon'”.

Avery was also named to this year’s Coaches Association all region 1st team, which is an accolade only few freshman can display.

The Allen County-Scottsville Patriots/Lady Patriots will host this year’s 15th District Tournament at Patriot Gym beginning February 26th through March 1st. WCLU will have both video and radio coverage of the entire tournament.
